When and Where ???

Found on Ebay
A very nice reader sent the following info.
John Heiser can be found in the 1880 census. He lived on Second Street and his occupation is listed as "Hotel". He was born in Kentucky, but his parents are listed as being born in Bavaria. His wife Johanna was born in Bavaria. Maybe this is why they advertised their hotel as a European hotel. It would be interesting to discover whether John's parents ran a hotel or "gasthaus" in Germany.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your blog. I read it often. I am researching my and my husband's family history. Both of our families are from the Mason County and surrounding Kentucky counties, as well as Brown County, Ohio.
In looking for the Heiser Hotel, I ran across the Google digitized Wiggins and Weaver's Ohio River Directory for 1871-72. It has a section on Maysville and is interesting reading. You have probably found this book, but just in case...
Thank you again for your wonderful blog. Lynn Koehler
